This is a major threat to grassland, fynbos and savanna eco-systems. Sekela Impilo Services uses a combination of veld management tools like fire and its interaction with grazing and browsing to control woody and/or alien plant.
Causes of Bush Encroachment:
Incorrect grazing/browsing management
Elevated levels of Co2
Lack of browsers and mixed feeders
Inappropriate fire management
Solution for Bush Encroachment:
#1 - Apply adaptive veld management in conjunction with vegetation monitoring and maintenance.
#2 - Ensure that the correct species mixes of bulk grazers, selective grazers, mixed feeders and browsers are present and maintained.
#3 - use fire to control seedlings in conjunction with grazing and/or browsing.
