Sekela Impilo Services (SES), like the name suggests, is all about sustaining livelihoods through the implementation of land management interventions, plans and actions. Monitoring and maintenance is critical to ensure the plans and actions are adapted as environmental conditions changes.
ABOUT GUSTAV LE ROUX
SIS founding member, Gustav le Roux, studied BSc Agriculture (Agribusiness and Wildlife Science) at the then University of Natal, where he was exposed to a range of subjects and topics like Agricultural Economics, Grassland Science, Wildlife Science, Botany, Zoology, Soil Science, Geography, Environmental management and Ecology. His honours thesis was based at Bonamanzi Game Ranch in North-Eastern KZN, and he was tasked to develop a game management model to optimize profits without adversely affecting the ecological carrying capacity and veld condition.
Gus completed a MSc Agric (Grassland Science) at the University of KwaZulu-Natal with his thesis subject Cattle and Veld interactions at Armoedsvlakte Research Station. His thesis focused on the effect of various stocking rates and grazing management systems and environmental variables on veld condition and animal production in the Kalahari shrubveld of the Ghaap Plateau.
He has extensive experience working in both the mining, wildlife, forestry and agriculture industries (16 years’ experience) with land management issues like veld management, rehabilitation, alien invasive species control, erosion control, land use and land capability, game and livestock management, biodiversity management, bush encroachment, fire management and vegetation monitoring to name a few.
