Integrated Alien Plant Control

Alien plants species can spread rapidly with negative consequences for native species. Invasive plant species have an impact on the diversity of local species, they affect water availability and damage the quality of soil nutrients. Once an alien plant has invaded a habitat, it changes the conditions of that environment.

Alien Invasive Control Programs

Alien invasive control programs-Initial, follow up and maintenance, monitoring, prioritization
In some extremely cases, the ecosystem will have been so severely affected by the Alien invasive species, that the area will require additional rehabilitation and land and water management. SES can offer the following key interventions is such cases:

Intervention #1

Rehabilitation, ecological restoration, reclamation and revegetation plans and implementation.

Intervention #2

Erosion repairs on the symptoms and preventing the root cause of the erosion from reoccurring by correcting land management practices and effects and to ensure that monitoring and maintenance done to keep the land sustainable and productive and to prevent reoccurrences of the erosion and land degradation.

Intervention #3

Re-establishing a sustainable and regenerative productive ecosystem based on the climatic and land use option and land capability of the areas.

Intervention #4

Biological control using natural enemies to control targeted species.

Intervention #5

Mechanical controls, such as: Uprooting / Felling / Slashing / Ring barking / Bark stripping

Intervention #6

Chemical controls, such as: Foliar application / Basal stem application / Cut stump application  / Total stump application / Soil applied herbicides

Intervention #7

Cultural controls such as fire, grazing, charcoal, etc.

Intervention #8

Integrated control which includes the most effective combination of above interventions (numbers 4-7).

Foliar spray of Black Wattle (Acacia mearnsii)

Basal stem application

Cut stump treatment of Black Wattle (Acacia mearnsii)

Use of fire to control Black Wattle (Acacia mearnsii)

Ringbarking
